It’s been awhile…

We haven’t done a post for what seems like ages. It’s not because a lot hasn’t been happening. On the contrary, a lot has been going on. The most important tid-bit of information is that we have partnered up with Amizade. This begs the question, what the heck is Amizade? Amizade is a well known non-profit organization based in Pittsburgh. They offer global service learning opportunities for students around the world. After many meetings, we decided to partner up for a unique spring break opportunity coined, “Amazing Break.” Students that are accepted into the program will earn academic credit for participating. This is something we’ve been working on for quite a while and are uber excited to finally see it happening. Also in the works are a string of mini-webisdoes. These webisodes will document the 2011 Summer Tour and give supporters/fans an in-depth look at the tour; state by state, project by project. Below is a short video taken by our summer participants. We handed them a flip camera and let them run wild. The webisodes wont be as bouncy. We promise. Enjoy and stay tuned for exciting updates!

The Call to Serve ventured to the California University of PA as they were hosting a Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition at the Manderino Library called Beyond Baseball: The Life of Roberto Clemente.

It was an honor and a privilege to meet Luis R. Clemente, the son of Roberto Clemente. Luis is the President and CEO of Roberto Clemente Sports City in Carolina, Puerto Rico. The Roberto Clemente Sports City is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing athletic opportunities and life lessons for inner city youth throughout Puerto Rico and beyond.

“Roberto Clemente’s accomplishments on the baseball field prefaced his work as a humanitarian, and, as with all great humanitarians, the vision lives on, continuing to touch lives and build new futures.”

For more information on the RCSC, please click here.

Our hope is that we can team up with RCSC and play a small role in carrying on the great humanitarian legacy of Roberto Clemente. Thank you to Luis Clemente for taking the time to speak with us.

This was our first year being an affiliate charity with the Pittsburgh Marathon. We had a great time and were able to fund-raise over $2500.00. We can’t thank all of our runners and volunteers who made this possible. We are looking forward to an even bigger team next year. Thanks to all who participated and congratulations on your runs. Enjoy the photos.

This post goes out to all of our runners for the Pittsburgh Marathon. You guys are truly awesome. You can see the whole team by clicking here. A special thank you goes out to Ron Weber. He introduced us to signing up as a charity for CTS and has brought in over $500 worth of pledges thus far. Thanks RON! Ron is pretty serious about the marathon and The Call to Serve. He even got a tattoo to show how pumped he is.

CTS Meets the Pittsburgh Marathon

You heard it here. We are running the Pittsburgh Marathon (just the half) and are registered as an affiliate charity. It’s kind of a big deal, we think. We need runners. It’s a great way to get involved and it’s for a good cause. You do not have to run full marathon. You can do a half or a relay with 5 other people. We are asking our runners to pledge $200. This number is not set in stone. If you are unable to raise that amount, we still want to run with you. Support is raised through family and friends. Fundraising deadline is April 1st. We will send you sample letters to send out. It’s pretty simple. If interested please contact adam@thecalltoserve.org ASAP. By registering with The Call to Serve at pittsburghmarathon.com (register code: SERVE2010), you are guranteed:

ENTRY INTO MARATHON (Official Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon bib number)
INVITATION TO PRE-MARATHON PASTA DINNER (the night before the marathon)
PRIORITY RACE PACKET PICK-UP (marathon weekend – no standing in lines!)
RACE-DAY SUPPORT (Includes area to meet before race, food and water, cheering groups,
complimentary post-race massage and more)

To Motivate you, we made this Video. Enjoy.
