Well it’s been 2 weeks since we have returned from the maiden voyage. It was truly an incredible experience. Life changing. We are currently working on the documentary and hope to have it finished in the next month or two. We are setting our goal at 5 RV crews next summer. We will be promoting CTS at college campuses and trying to spread the word through various social outlets. The website will be revamped and followers will be able to talk about their volunteer experiences. We will be creating a volunteer community within the new website. We’ll also have our non-profit status soon. The real journey starts now. We are more motivated than ever to offer the experience we had to college students across the country. Thank you and God Bless.

Day 2: Missouri
We woke up to pouring rain and some not so promising skies, but the sky broke like glass on cement and the sun came out to play. We worked a full day from 9am-6pm. Here is a quick video of some of the stuff we did. Click read more.

We added another service project to our itinerary. Rocky Vine camp located in Dutzow, Missouri. Set near the Missouri River, RockyVine’s adventure is off the charts. They need help getting ready for campers to start coming in so The Call to Serve team is headed to help. As I type this, it’s 12:34am in the morning. We will be driving throughout the night and arriving at Rocky Vine around 8am. Check out our video from the road by clicking read more. We’ll be posting another soon.

Doc to Dock Service Project 5/26

We woke up to rain, wind and some unseasonably cold temperatures. That didnt stop us though. We made the trek from Long Beach into Brooklyn and met up with students from Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School. We walked to 300 Douglass Street in Brooklyn and volunteered with an organization called Doc to Dock. Doc to Dock is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving the health and lives of people in Africa by providing healthcare workers with the tools they need. It is estimated that in the United States thousands of tons of medical supplies are discarded every day due to overproduction, procedural excess and regulatory requirements. This surplus of medical materials is either incinerated or deposited in landfills, both of which are harmful to the environment. Doc to Dock strives to reverse this cycle of waste by collecting the unused medical supplies from New York hospitals and shipping them to hospitals and clinics in need in Africa.
We spent our time at Doc to Dock organizing supplies and preparing palettes in order to be shipped to Africa. It was crazy to hear how many medical supplies in America are thrown away each year that are perfectly fine. It was truly awesome to know that we were having an impact on a community in need across the globe. It was a great day of service with the students of Bishop Louglin. To see other young people giving of their time after school was inspiring to the Call to Serve team. If you have a moment, click here to watch a short video on the Doc to Dock organization.

Send Off Party

This is a little out of order, but we just picked up an air card from Verizon so we are in business now. We had over 50 people come out to the send off party. It was great to see everyone and it also allowed family and friends to get a glimpse as to what we will be doing over these 30 days. It seems as though everyone enjoyed checking out the RV. A big thank you goes out to my parents for working hard all week to get the yard in top notch shape for the party. Despite the rain, we had a great time. Thanks to all for coming and out and donating to the Call to Serve.

We Are Prophets of a Future Not Our Own

Before Adam and I left to embark on The Call to Serve’s first mission trip, my mom and I were talking about the Archbishop Oscar Romero.  We talked about the way he put total trust in the Lord and the impact he had in Central America, and on a larger scale the entire Catholic Church community.  We were able to relate much of what Archbishop Romero believed about our role as Christians to The Call to Serve.  We realize that God has a plan for The Call to Serve and that he is the master builder, we are his workers…

We Are Prophets of a Future Not Our Own

It helps, now and then, to step

back and take the long view.

The Kingdom is not only

beyond our efforts,

it is beyond our vision.

We accomplish in our lifetime

only a tiny fraction

of the magnificent enterprise

that is God’s work.

We plant seeds that

one day will grow.

planted, knowing that

they hold future promise.

We cannot do everything

and there is a sense of liberation

in realizing that.

This enables us to do something,

and to do it very well.

It may be incomplete, but it is a

beginning, a step along the way,

an opportunity for God’s grace

to enter and do the rest.

We may never see the end results,

but that is the difference between

the master builder and the worker.

We are workers, not master

builders, ministers, not messiahs.

We are prophets of a future not our own.

-Attributed to Archbishop Oscar Romero

2 More Days

It’s hard to believe that we are actually leaving in 2 days for our month long journey. We spent all day trying to learn the ins and outs of the RV. Needless to say, we are still learning. We’ll figure it out though, no worries. We also have some good news to share. We are officially The Call to Serve ltd. now, which means we are recognized by the government and our non-profit paperwork is filed. It’s a big step in the right direction for The Call to Serve. We hope by next summer to be sending RV crews all across the country. Check out pictures from the day by clicking here. A big thanks goes out to my dad for helping us out today. Be sure to check out the pictures. Thanks.
