We haven’t done a post for what seems like ages. It’s not because a lot hasn’t been happening. On the contrary, a lot has been going on. The most important tid-bit of information is that we have partnered up with Amizade. This begs the question, what the heck is Amizade? Amizade is a well known non-profit organization based in Pittsburgh. They offer global service learning opportunities for students around the world. After many meetings, we decided to partner up for a unique spring break opportunity coined, “Amazing Break.” Students that are accepted into the program will earn academic credit for participating. This is something we’ve been working on for quite a while and are uber excited to finally see it happening. Also in the works are a string of mini-webisdoes. These webisodes will document the 2011 Summer Tour and give supporters/fans an in-depth look at the tour; state by state, project by project. Below is a short video taken by our summer participants. We handed them a flip camera and let them run wild. The webisodes wont be as bouncy. We promise. Enjoy and stay tuned for exciting updates!

Last weekend, The Call to Serve was in the middle of the Appalachain Mountains in Grundy, Virginia. CTS was there to deliver donated items and to help out at Mountain Mission School (MMS). Thanks to the generous donations of our supporters, we were able to purchase $1,000 worth of supplies to keep MMS going strong. We also took care of some maintenance around the school and organized some fun activities for the kids, including a little water balloon mayhem! All in all, it was a great experience to be around such a positive environment and help in whatever way we could.

We were very impressed to learn that MMS has been doing great things for children in need since 1921. MMS strives to give hope and opportunities to children suffering from abuse, poverty, or neglect. Being around the kids at MMS was a pleasure and it really was a cultural experience because MMS has taken children under their care from all over the world. There is a sign as you enter the school grounds that reads ” DRIVE CAREFULLY: Future Local and International Leaders at Play.” We couldn’t agree more with the sign and drove very, very carefully!

Feel free to visit http://mmskids.org/ to learn more about this wonderful organization.

The team made it safely to New Orleans last night from Austin. We had a great time in Austin and would like to thank all of the organizations we volunteered with for there hospitality. We leave each city inspired by these full time volunteers who day in and day out give of themselves. This country would not be what it is without you all. The CTS team will be volunteering with Operation Helping Hands in New Orleans, LA for the next few days. This will mark The Call to Serve’s third trip to Nola. It’s been great to see the city come back to life after Katrina. Below is a video highlighting our time in Austin. Check it!
