A Taste

Well, we’ve made it to our 2nd location- Charleston, SC. We spent most of the day yesterday driving. It took about ten hours from Virginia Beach to Charleston. We had a few setbacks including our electric cap falling off and a few missed turns but that’s part of the adventure. Adam is currently at RV Camping World in North Charleston getting a replacement fridge in the rental RV since it died. (Shout out to Dave Kunes for getting us a timely appointment). The rest of the team is with Andrew volunteering with Rural Missions on St. John’s Island. We’re a day behind on videos and pictures due to limited internet access. Why can’t everywhere just have free wi-fi?

Our team has become a tight knit family in only a few days. Not only are we serving others on this trip, but we’re learning what it means to serve one another. Our tag-line for the trip is “Be Flexible” and we’re thrilled that everyone is going above and beyond that. Keep following Black Beauty and White Stallion on the road (RV nicknames!). Black Beauty has been getting a lot of looks and honks. We’re a getting a lot of interest and support at pretty much every gas station we stop at.

That’s all for now…Thanks for all your support and kindness as you follow our journey. Please tell your friends. And check out our store above. Enjoy the video below. It’s a small taste of the adventure thus far.

Love in Motion at M.E. Cox

Yesterday, we spent the afternoon entertaining the elderly at M.E. Cox Center. It was unexpected and presented a new challenge for the CTS team. We had to dig into our bag of creativity and entertain for a few hours. Jokes, stories, music, and some spontaneous dance moves were brought out. It was a change of pace from the entertainment side of things. We actually were told to tone down our energy a bit. It was a great experience and we were happy we could seRVe the elderly. Enjoy this short video of us singing, “It’s a wonderful world.”

Pictures coming soon….

We are very excited to have our first intern on board with The Call to Serve. As soon as we met Katie, we knew she was right for the internship. She brings a lot of energy, a great attitude and a genuine passion for wanting to help others. We know she is going to do an awesome job this summer. Check out her bio below:

katieKatie Sansonetti, a public relations and advertising student at Point Park University, is currently working with the Call to Serve as its summer communications intern.  She became interested in this field because she has a passion for volunteering and helping to make a difference in others’ lives by bringing awareness to non-profit organizations like The Call to Serve. Apart from school, Katie helps out with community church-oriented events that outreach to young adults in depressed neighborhoods.  She also volunteers with Young Overcomers United (Y.O.U) helping young adults take steps of freedom from drugs and alcohol.  In the future, she hopes to use her passion in a life career committed to helping people through love and passing it along to encourage others to do the same.

Age: 21

Likes:  Reading/writing, camping and boating, the beach, art, dance, hockey, spending time with family and friends

Quote: “Love begins at home, and it is not how much we do… but how much love we put in that action.”

This was our first year being an affiliate charity with the Pittsburgh Marathon. We had a great time and were able to fund-raise over $2500.00. We can’t thank all of our runners and volunteers who made this possible. We are looking forward to an even bigger team next year. Thanks to all who participated and congratulations on your runs. Enjoy the photos.

If your company or you know of anyone that would be interested in giving some type of sponsorship to CTS for the Pittsburgh Marathon, please let us know.

Company will be featured as a sponsor on our fleet of R.V.’s this summer, and will be recognized on our online local volunteer calendar.  In addition, you will receive a copy of our 2009-2010 Annual Report which will highlight your support. Your logo and/or name will also be included on our t-shirts for the Pittsburgh Marathon. This will lead to some great exposure with the Pittsburgh Marathon expected to bring in over 15,000 runners plus thousands of non-runners. Contact adam@thecalltoserve.org if interested.
